Biographical / Historical
Tufts Dining Action Coalition is a student organization founded in early 2018 in response to Tufts dining workers’ efforts to unionize. Tufts Dining Action Coalition supported the dining workers by organizing events in support of unionization and contract negotiation efforts and educating other Tufts students about the dining workers’ campaign.
Tufts Dining Action Coalition actions included organizing rallies, pickets, and worker speak-outs; phone banks to Tufts administrators; speaking out at an alumni event; placing banners around campus; and organizing in solidarity with other labor actions in the Boston area. Specific issues that Tufts Dining Action Coalition and dining workers focused on were healthcare, respect in the workplace, and freedom from discrimination and exploitation.
In October 2019, Tufts Dining Action Coalition joined the Tufts Activism Coalition, an umbrella organization formed to coordinate activities and share organizational tools.
