This collection contains Fred Gowing's Tufts memorabilia, acceptance letter and tuition bills, 1879-1881; and correspondence, mostly related to Gowing's work as a high school principal and superintendent, 1881-1917.

Biographical / Historical

Mr. Gowing graduated from Tufts in 1881 and received an honorary doctorate in 1897. He served as principal in several high schools and schools throughout the Northeastern United States. He was principal (president) of Rhode Island College from 1898-1901. He died March 20 1921.
