Biographical / Historical

Dr. Alvin Howell joined the Tufts University electrical engineering department faculty in 1940 and served as the chairman of the department from 1941 to 1970. He led the first team to send an unmanned 400-foot-tall balloon around the world in 1957, a spy flight funded by the Air Force to gather intelligence on the Soviet Union.
