Biographical / Historical
George Edward Crowell was born in Nashua, New Hampshire (d. 1981) and graduated from Tufts Dental School in 1927. He then worked as dentist and oral surgeon in residence at the Westfield State Sanatorium for eleven years mostly treating children with tuberculosis or cancer. in 1938 he opened a practice in Copley Square and later Bay State Road and began to work as dentist free of charge at the Perkins Institute for the Blind in Watertown which he continued to do for over forty two years. He also served as nutritional adviser and researcher at Forsyth Dental Infirmary. He married Mildred Hovey, a bacteriologist with whom he had worked at the Westfield State Sanatorium in 1939. They had two sons, Douglas Edward Crowell and Garrison Elliot Croweel, as well as one daughter, Sherida Nancy Crowell. Dr. Crowell bred golden retrievers and was the former president of the colonial Field Trial Club of New England. He died June 3, 1981 in Concord.
