Biographical / Historical

The Adams Club was founded in the spring of 1870 in order to deal with the chronic problem of providing satisfactory boarding facilities. Students organized their own system for food and housing named after its student founder J. C. Adams. It lasted less than a decade. It encountered the same problems faced previously by the College which, in 1864-65, was unable to accommodate the forty-four of the forty-six students who boarded on campus and required both food and housing.
