Biographical / Historical
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was created in 1894-1895 as part of the the Tufts College of Engineering. At that time, the College of Engineering consisted only of the Departments of Civil and Electrical Engineering. A Ph.D. program was added to the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1963.
