This collection contains transcripts and other student records generated or received by the School of Dental Medicine, including administrative clearance forms for graduation; admission letters, applications, and recommendations; correspondence, financial records; and grade sheets. The bulk of the material is dated from 1991 to 2015.

Biographical / Historical

Tufts University School of Dental Medicine was established in 1868 as Boston Dental College. It was incorporated into Tufts College in 1899. Although founded as a school to educate students from New England, today Tufts is renowned throughout the United States and the world as a center for academic and clinical excellence. Tufts boasts over 6,900 alumni composed of individuals from all fifty states and thirty-nine countries. The majority of the alumni outside of the USA have completed an Advanced Education Certificate program. Students receive a comprehensive education emphasizing the importance of didactic coursework, clinical experience, and practice management that prepares them to enter the work force as confident, proficient clinicians.

Arrangement

This collection is organized into five series: Student records; Post graduate files; Grade sheets; Withdrawn or Dismissed students; 2016 accessions; and Unprocessed accessions.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Transferred by the Office of Student Services, School of Dental Medicine, 2014-2020.

Processing Information

Processing of the 2016 accessions was completed by Leah Edelman in 2017. Materials were placed in archival boxes if the orignal housing was damaged. A box-level inventory and series-level description were created and the finding aid was updated at the time of processing. Processing of 2018 accessions was completed by Leah Edelman, Melissa Cepeda, and Sadhya Garg in 2019. Materials were rehoused in archival boxes, a file level inventory was created, and series and collection level descriptions were updated at the time of processing. Processing of accession UA-2020-045 was completed by Records and Accesioning Archivist, Jane Kelly, in February 2020.
