Scope and Contents

This series contains published sheet music by Tufts composers. Composers include faculty and students. In the early part of the 20th century, Tufts had an active community of composers. Led by Leo Rich Lewis, A1887, H1922, both a graduate and faculty member at the college, a multitude of songs for and about Tufts were published. Lewis, composer of Tufts' Alma Mater, acted as a mentor for many students who wrote some of the most well-known Tufts songs, such as Tuftonia's Day, the fight song still performed today. This series contains the published results of these efforts, music that was published for the most part by the Tufts College Press for sale to members of the Tufts community. Published sheet music by Tufts composers. Composers include faculty and students. The majority of the pieces are about Tufts or composed for Tufts events such as Class Day. Songs not related to Tufts but printed by the Tufts Press are also included.
