Abstract:

Wilmot L. Warren graduated from Tufts University in 1868 and began work as a proofreader at the Springfield Republican. He quickly moved up the ranks, working finally as the general editor beginning in 1871. Warren served as a Trustee of Tufts College from 1880 until his death in 1887. Warren was also a prominent member of the Universalist Church and wrote several editorials for the Tufts Collegian and Tuftonian espousing his views on journalism and Universalism.

Wilmot Lillie Warren, born July 28, 1847 in Bethel Vt, graduated from Tufts University in 1868 with a bachelor of arts degree. He began work as a proofreader at the Springfield Republican. He quickly moved up the ranks, working in the news department reporting on the Legislature from 1868 to 1869, then as the New England and exchange editor until 1870, and finally as the general editor beginning in 1871. In addition to his duties at the Republican, Warren wrote several review articles and public addresses including a commencement speech he presented at Tufts several years before his death. Warren, who served as a Trustee of Tufts College from 1880 until his death, was married twice, first to Miss. Josephine Hopkins from 1870 to 1880, and after her death in June of 1880, to Miss Mary Lee Vose from 1885 to 1887. Warren enjoyed traveling in Europe, primarily to Berlin, with his first wife. Warren was also a prominent member of the Universalist Church and he wrote several editorials for the Tufts Collegian and Tuftonian espousing his views on journalism and Universalism. Wilmot Warren died on December 15, 1887 at the age of 40.
