Biography

Abstract:
The Frances Stern Nutrition Center was established in 1918 by Frances Stern, a pioneer in the field of applied nutrition. The Center was the first organization of its kind in the world and has served as a model for many other nutrition clinics in the U.S. and abroad. It includes the outpatient nutrition clinic and the inpatient nutrition services for Tufts Medical Center. <p>The Frances Stern Nutrition Center was established in 1918 by Frances Stern, a pioneer in the field of applied nutrition. The Center was the first organization of its kind in the world and has served as a model for many other nutrition clinics in the U.S. and abroad.</p> <p>In recognition of Frances Stern's work and dedication to the science of nutrition, the clinic became known as the Frances Stern Food Clinic in 1943. In 1957 the name was further modified to the Frances Stern Nutrition Center. The traditions of care for all aspects of patients' lives, respect for their cultural traditions, and concern for making them comfortable remain as legacies of Frances Stern.</p> <p>In 2013, the Frances Stern Nutrition Center offers the following outpatient services: individual counseling, computerized diet analysis, and body fat analysis, with several specialties through personalized care. They help tailor nutrition plans to individual needs and provide services to help patients make healthy eating choices. Additionally, they offer a combined dietetic internship/masters degree program in nutrition through the Freidman School of Nutrition Science and Policy.</p>
